The Rottweiler´s ten training commandments

1. Get your dog used to your voice and to hear its name being called out.

2. Talk to your dog constantly during the first days of your living together. Make a point of prohibitions: together with your family make up a code of behaviour for your dog.

3. Avoid bad habits. Otherwise, it will be really difficult to get rid of them.

4. Behave in a well-balanced manner: a nervous or unstable person cannot expect from his/her dog to be calm or to display a stable temperament.

5. Never shout or scream near the proximity of your Rottweiler. This would damage its self-confidence, its reasoning capacity and its capacity for displaying attention.

6. Make sure to always use a collar; this device will facilitate greatly your control over the dog.

7. Associate the training commands with something pleasant. Try to perform training exercises before carrying out activities that appeal to your dog, such as games or the daily walks.

8. Always encourage your dog: when it manages to fulfil a command to your complete satisfaction. Congratulate it!. Say enthusiastically: "Bravo!" "Well done!" "Very well, buddy!", etc.

9. Be patient: shouts generate irritation and fear, making the learning process much more troublesome.

10. When reprimanding your Rottweiler, show immediately whatever displeased you and let it know than it MUST NOT happen again employing an forceful tone of voice, but without shouting or sounding threatening.
